What should I expect this semester? The great thing about this class is that it's YOUR class. You get to provide input on things you would like to discuss. Each day focuses on a different topic of self-awareness and self-improvement. We will have a variety of topics, discussions, guest speakers and workouts this semester.
What will I need for this class? Work-IN weeks: We will stay in the classroom for lessons. You will need a 1/2" 3-ring binder. I have some if you are unable to access one, but it must be turned in at the end of the semester. You will need a pen or pencil and your binder each day. You will have the option (which I highly recommend) to keep your binder in the classroom. Work-OUT weeks: These are weeks where we will focus on self-care and excercise. You are required to dress appropriately each day...this includes having gym shoes, socks and comfortable clothing for exercise. What fitness activities will be offered? Yoga, walking, jogging, weight-bearing exercises, circuit training, pilates, aerobics and zumba. Activities include, but are not limited to these types of exercise. I'm not athletic. Am I going to get a bad grade on the fitness portion of class? Absolutely not! This class is all about trying new things, stepping outside of your comfort zone and doing your best. As long as your are giving your best effort, that's all that matters! You will be graded on improvement and effort, rather than ability. You will also be required to change for your workouts. If you do not bring a change of clothes or gym shoes you will get a dress cut for the day. Three dress cuts results in a lunch detention. What kinds of things will we be talking about in class? Each day we will focus on a different topic. Students will be given time to reflect and journal quietly. They will also have a chance to share their thoughts with the class. We will discuss topics such as self esteem, body image, the influence of family and friends, the power of positive thinking, handling conflict, bravery, service to others and how we can contribute positively to society. If there is anything you would like to discuss in this class, please bring it to my attention. This class is for YOU.
